The PADI Open Water Diver course normally takes 4 days. We start with 2 days of theory, DVD and the swimming pool for learning basic underwater safety skills; with this you will learn the standard procedures and principles of diving. The course theory is made in our new divecenter with A/C classrooms for your comfort.

The PADI Open Water course allows you to dive independently to a maximum depth of 18m, with a buddy, in conditions that are similar to what you have been trained in, so maybe no Ice Diving just yet! However, after receiving training from one of our expert PADI Instructors, you will be confident enough to plan and execute your own dives.

Well, what does the course consist of?

There are 5 chapters in the Open Water Manual (included in the price) and you need to complete a review at the end of each chapter. There are also quick quizzes for you to see how you are getting on. There is a Final Exam, which covers all of the theory that you have just learnt, but don’t worry… its not too bad!

There is also water work, and it breaks down like this:

- There are 5 Confined water sessions, where you learn the skills that you will use whenever you dive, and there are 4 Open Water training dives, where you have a chance to practice the skills you have mastered in Confined water, and see the beautiful diverse marine life of the Similan Islands.

In order to do this course, you need to be able to swim (of course!) a distance of 200m and tread water for 10min.

- After completion, you receive a logbook, to log your dives, and receive your PADI Open Water Certification.Open water diver training

- Upon arrival at Similan Diving Safaris you will be given your Open Water Manual, and you can watch the DVD in our Air-conditioned classrooms, at your pace. You can take home the book for you to complete by your swimming pool, with an ice cold Singha Beer (Great Thai beer).

- The next day, your Instructor will review your Knowledge Reviews and take you through the chapters that you have learnt, and then it’s straight to the water for Confined Water training, with lunch provided.

- The rest of the knowledge development will be done at your pace, with the final exam when you are ready.

The Open Water dives 1 and 2 have a maximum depth of 12m, with a surface interval (time between dives) at one of the beautiful beaches where you will have lunch and a chance to explore, relax or snorkel.

Dives 3 and 4 have a maximum depth of 18m and will be done the following day after dives 1 and 2.
